As I was enjoying the Fruita Parade of lights last night I was overjoyed to run into many friends from across this Grand Valley of ours.
One of them was Ms. Ellen Miller, a local community leader that is doing as much as she can to make our neck of the woods a better place to live!
Ellen reminded me that there are over 30 families at STRiVE, a local organization that provides services to help families and support individuals with developmental disabilities, in need of a Merry Christmas…
As we all know it is expensive to raise a child.
Now imagine that child has a disability. Research shows the cost can more than quadruple, which makes the holidays extra difficult for these low income families.
What Can You Do?
If you are in a position to help this year you can do so in one of three ways:
- Sponsor a family – You will be provided with a wish list for a specific family
- Cash donations that will be used to purchase food, toys and gift cards for families
- Gift Cards for groceries
- Gift cards for toys and/or gifts
They were hoping to have all donations by the 8th, however I was reassured by Ellen that if you contact her THIS week, there is still time!
