SMALL GROUP SUPPORTED COMMUNITY EMPLOYMENT

 

Supported Community Employment (small group) provides intensive, on-going support that enables a client, for whom competitive employment at or above the minimum wage is unlikely absent the provisions of supports and who because of the client’s disabilities needs supports to perform regularly.

STRiVE’s Botanical Garden and Gift Shop are an opportunity to either be outdoors learning about plants with the Master Gardener or working in the gift shop stocking shelves and helping customers.

GROUNDS AND RECYCLING CREWS

STRiVE’s Grounds Crew has outside community contracts to clean parking lots and other common areas. Recycle Crew has inside and outside contracts to pick up recyclables and take them to the appropriated recycling center. Both programs provide community involvement.

Strive’s Mobile Crews are contracted by outside consumers to do all types of yard work. They use lawn mowers, trimmers, rakes and shovels in a small group setting. Safety while working is a big teaching point for this program, along with customer care.

Strive’s Sweet Beginnings Program creates soaps, candles, and other bath and household cleaning supplies to sell to the public and at Uniquely Yours. Measuring, money counting and recipe reading are a few of the things taught in Sweet Beginnings. Individuals get the satisfaction of working on projects from beginning to sales and even receive feedback from customers.

STRiVE’s Sweet Success Program is a cooking and baking program in a small group setting. Individuals learn to read recipes, do the measuring, use the stove and oven, and all other cooking skills to give them independence. Sweet Success does small catering for other Strive programs and meetings along with making one meal a week for Early Intervention’s Parenting classes.

STRiVE’s Wood Shop is a small group program designed to teach skills such as measuring, hammering, use of power tools and safety. Staff in this program are experienced carpenters. Individuals work on projects for Strive and outside contracts.

ALIDA’S FRUITS

Alida’s Fruits is a community based retail fruit store and producing kitchen that is owned and operated by STRIVE. Individuals that participate in this employment opportunity learn skills in retail sales, floor displays, gardening, and production. The jams, salsas and syrups sold at the location are produced by the employees. This setting allows individuals to work with garden to table products that are sold within their community.
